Parents: Please go through your child's yellow folder and take out the notices and papers that have been corrected.  If you are unsure as to what can be taken out, just sit down with your 5th grader and go through the folder with them.  They should know what is save and what is keep.  If you  find any uncorrected papers in the Homework and Uncorrected Paper side of the Homework Folder, leave them alone.  The students have been directed to keep all work in need of correcting in this side of the folder.  By keeping all work in need of correcting in one place, it is easier for the children to find the work when it is needed. Any work found in that section that is not completed should be completed that night by your child, even if they failed to write it down in their assignment pad.
The children should also be reading each night for at least 20 minutes.  Part of the battle of becoming a confident, life long reader is to be able to sit and read for a sustained amount of time.  Mr. Stillway and I both use Reading Trackers for the students to keep track of their at home reading.  We would appreciate it if you could sign the Reading Tracker each Thursday night.  Many students are returning them unsigned by the parents.  Please ask them to see their trackers and be sure to sign to verify that they are reading each night.  The more they practice the skill of reading at home, as well as in school, the better readers they will become.  The trackers are passed out each Friday and collected each Thursday.
To help ensure that your child has a successful year, please help us by checking your child's assignment pad daily to ensure they are completing their homework. I would really appreciate it if you could email me with your email address so that I can get you in our information loop. I can be reached at the address [email protected] .
